First International Cluster Conference in Belgrade

First International Conference on Clusters in Serbia “Clusters – challenges and possibilities for regional development”, organized by the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development, SMEE Department, was held on 10 March 2009 in Belgrade. The results of the “Cluster Development Support Programme“, as well as the clusters established with support of the Ministry which are operating successfully today were presented at the Conference.

The Conference aim was to motivate enterprise and other institutions (research and educational centers, supporting institutions, etc.) to organize into clusters, present good examples of cluster initiatives in the Republic of Serbia, present experiences of EU member countries in providing support to clusters and create a network of participants in cluster initiatives in the region in order to enable exchange of experiences and ideas.

The topics of the Conference were discussed within three panels:

  • Impact of clusters on regional development,
  • Cluster development in Serbia, and
  • Clusters as innovation drivers.

Over 200 representatives from Serbia and abroad participated in the Conference.
